Radiator hoses, 8BA in a 36
 

I’ve been searching for information on what hoses I need to install a 8ba in a 36. I’m hoping that someone has Gates parts numbers that will make this easy.
8ba Top 1.25” bottom 1.75”. 1936 radiator 1.75”.

I’m trying to hook this up without ordering anything but hoses.
Thinking of swedging up from 1.25 to 1.5 from the thermostat housing to 1.5 pipe and then swedging up to 1.75 hose to the radiator. I know I will not have much room.
I think if I had a 1.5” and a 1.75” short radius 90° elbow it would work. Anybody know how to get a gates part number for that?

The bottom hose would be 1.75 both ends I think

Does the 36 radiator mount on the forward or rear holes on the frame?

Just a thought. Drake as do others sells 8ba housings with a 1 3/4" outlet for installing an 8ba in an earlier car/truck. I'm using ones from Model Engineering (MEC) because at the time I needed a set only Gene at MEC had them. The ones from MEC were cheaper and reasonable shipping. I'd recommend MEC over Drake but ordering from MEC is a bit more difficult (their web site is less than desirable). Here is a link to Drake's housings.

Okay I searched and found Van Pelt also sells these about the same price. Do the stock thermostat work in these?

Available thru most EFV8 parts suppliers.
Import but seem to fit OK, you will need to trim the length a little.

There are a couple things you can do with custom hoses. One is to get some flexible aluminum tubing like they use on the 1960s-1980s air cleaner heat risers and bend it to the shape you need. Then take it to the local parts store and match up the shape. They usually turn me loose back behind the counter and so I van match up a hose.

The second thing is Gates makes an illustrated hose catalog. I'm sure Dayco does too. It lists every hose by its diameter and length. It has a drawing of each hose so you can find the shape you need. When I worked as a mechanic for the phone company, we got new parts catalogs every year. I would take the old one's home. There is stuff in those paper catalogs that don't show up on the parts store computers.

(Below) Gates illustrated parts catalog. Scroll down to the molded hose identification catalog. Lookup a hose number that has the diameter and length you need. Then use that number to look at the illustrations of those size hoses and find the shape you want. Sometimes you have to cut the shape you need out of a longer hose. They also have hoses with two different diameter ends, which is good if you are adapting an 8BA with the smaller hoses to an earlier flathead radiator.

This is an 8BA in a '36 3-w coupe. Sorry, I don't have a number for the top hose for you, but as you can see, it's a flexi-hose....pretty simple to duplicate. Cut-off a piece of the old hose about 1-1/2" long to place INSIDE the engine end of flex hose. The sizing reduces hose ID down to 8BA size. Coop

Boy, I don't know about you, but every time I see an otherwise nice car with flex hoses, I cringe.

I was thinking the same thing.
Like a guy had posted previously, go look at all the hoses in the "back room" at a local parts store.
You are certain to find one, that when cut down, will provide a nice appearance.

I used a Gates 21236 for lower offset hoses for an 8BA to aftermarket 1932 radiator. It’s 1-3/4 ID. The outlets on my radiator came out straight. Not sure if yours are straight or angled. It’s worth looking at. O’Reilly’s uses the same number for their house brand.
