32 cabriolet door windows Hi , on our 32 cabriolet the previous owner said the door windows rattled when up. His fix was a “U” shaped piece of wood on the B pillar which requires the window to be down when opening or closing the door ,not ideal . Is there supposed to be rubber seals in the door top ? Or some sort of seal on the A or B pillar to steady the windows. Any pictures or input would be great.

Originally, the felt-covered rubber weather seals in chrome-plated or stainless steel channels on the A and B pillars were enough to prevent the window from rattling, assuming that there isn't excessive wear in the window run channels in the doors. (There was only a flap of the top material along the top of the window frame which did not contribute to rattle prevention.)

Re: 32 cabriolet door windows Thanks David. Who would be a vendor for the felt-covered rubber weather seals in chrome-plated or stainless steel channels. Good point I will check the window runner channel felts in the doors also.

Re: 32 cabriolet door windows Bob Drake's catalog shows the stainless steel channels, but I did not see the rubber inserts or the felt covering tape therein. Carpenter used to carry the parts as well, but I found nothing in their current online catalog. Try thirdgenauto.com.

Re: 32 cabriolet door windows Off topic but please tell us about those '32 roadsters in the background.Orig NZ V8 or 4 cyl cars? Thanks

Re: 32 cabriolet door windows Be careful when purchasing the channels/rubber from the above suppliers.
These channels are similar to 1933/34. The reproduction channels are accurate but the rubbers supposedly for them when inserted are too narrow. I tried from both suppliers when restoring my 34 cabriolet and found this out. My problem was solved when I was able to purchase the correct width inserts from the Early Ford Store in CA. These rubbers even have the correct felt like finish (although not very durable). |
Re: 32 cabriolet door windows Sheldon,
Not NZ, but rather USA. On the left is Mark Moriarity's V8 and on the right is the ex-Pat Fenner/ex-Par McFarland (RIP) Model B. |
Re: 32 cabriolet door windows Ah,okay. Thanks

Those photos look like they were taken in Gettysburg. They look like Mark Moriarty's and Pat McFarland's (sp?). Mark's is a V8 and Pat's is a 4. |
Re: 32 cabriolet door windows Correct, the location was one of the Eastern National Meets held at Gettysburg, PA.

Re: 32 cabriolet door windows Pat,
I understand that Pat's other '32 roadster has a new home in Michigan along side my avatar, which is no longer mine. |
Re: 32 cabriolet door windows I'm not sure where I purchased the stainless channels and rubber but the package for the rubber says that it came from Dale's Manufacturing Co. in Oklahoma City. It is called Convertible window rubber moulding #18-45983. 1932-39. Dale's may be wholesale only but they should be able to tell you where to buy it. Phone 405-631-8988

Re: 32 cabriolet door windows Is that Gene Hetland (RIP) with his back to the camera?
|
Re: 32 cabriolet door windows No, he was not in attendance at either of the Eastern National Meets held at Gettysburg.
|
Re: 32 cabriolet door windows Scanned through third gen ,drake and carpenter but found none of the steel “U” channels to hold the window seals. Maybe my search was inadequate?
|
Re: 32 cabriolet door windows I checked last week and both the stainless steel channels and the rubber weatherstrips were in the Drake online catalog as well as fuzzy cloth tape covering. I searched with "convertible weatherstrips" and narrowed it down from there.

Re: 32 cabriolet door windows Thanks David . Typical back order Bob ,it says unavailable , well the channel anyway. He did have the rubber. But using his SKU number lead me other sources.
|
Re: 32 cabriolet door windows The last time I bought the rubber from Drake it was already covered with the felt.
