Looking for ‘29 Coupe Rear Wheel Well Patch Panels That Fit

I’m looking for a pair of these - Patch panels that have the correct dimples on the leading edge of the panel, the dimple on the rear where the rear subrail attaches - in addition to the three embossed ribs. All I can find online now are flat panels with only the three ribs.

Is there a current course of these patch panels made with all the correct dimples ??

Many thanks - Jim

Jim, what you are asking for is not made commercially. They must be custom fabricated.

Conway…
Do you/can you mig and/or tig weld. Do you have access to a small sheet metal brake?
Brent is correct no one now makes the correct contour panel.

Thanks Brent. I understand the panels with correct contours haven’t been made for about 4 years. So I will be trying to add the contours to the flat panels I recently bought.

I can weld and do have a small sheet metal brake, with access to a larger one. looks like I’ll be trying to fabricate the panel myself. Good chance to learn something new !

I posted on your post last time.
If you will email me at [email protected] I can shed some great light on such a project. I do that regularly and just finished a rough out of it in a 68c

Re: Looking for ‘29 Coupe Rear Wheel Well Patch Panels That Fit

I've fabricated several size dimpling tools over the years. It takes time but sometimes a person has no choice. I have a thick steel table top and a piece of new rail road rail that I use with various different shaped forms to pound those shapes into the steel where needed. If I find old worn out chisels, I convert them into swaging tools to form shapes in steel. Wood forms can be made to make shapes for a limited number of blows before they are damaged. If a person uses steel forms they will last longer but I don't form a lot of sheet metal. A person can make dies to work in an old arbor press to form some beads. A bead roller is nice to have but a person can form stuff in other ways. It just takes longer. I can't afford a Pull Max so I use what I have. Angle irons and a vice can be used for braking an edge over on a panel. It's nice to have a brake but it can be done without one.

There are a lot of metal shaping videos on U-tube. Some are pretty good and some aren't but a lot of it is good information if you want to shape metal on your own. I learned a lot from Metal Meet and some of David Gardiner's work.

Jim, so that we are clear, "correct contour" panels have never been made in the aftermarket. You must own the correct dies for either a powerhammer forming machine or a bead roller, ...and you need to own a Shrinker and Stretcher.
