39 pickup wheel color ? What color are the wheels supposed to be ? Body color or black ? If black, gloss black ?
Thanks, Mike |
Re: 39 pickup wheel color ? Yes, gloss black

Re: 39 pickup wheel color ? Gloss black was standard. Matching to body color was a $5 upcharge.

Re: 39 pickup wheel color ? Hmmmm. So i could go either way.

Re: 39 pickup wheel color ? Do you happen to have a copy of a dealer letter that gives that info? I don't plan on repainting my wheels, but I would love to have a copy of it.

Re: 39 pickup wheel color ? Not judged but trying to make it pretty right. I would post pics but i havent figured that out. It seems more difficult

Re: 39 pickup wheel color ? I agree with Alan and judge accordingly, however it can get a bit controversial when it comes to vehicles allegedly ordered by and sold to fleets when new, especially when it comes to special paint colors and paint application treatments. In the Early Ford V8 Club judging standards, technically the owner is required to be able to document that which he believes/alleges to be original and while the availability of special paint colors and treatments is relatively easy to document in any given year, what is extremely difficult to document is that a specific surviving vehicle was originally a part of a fleet order.

Re: 39 pickup wheel color ? Since the OP doesn't intend the vehicle to be judged, a lot of this thread is only relevant to someone interested in being on an EVF8 Club concourse. However, knowledge of the rules is always a good thing for everyone.

Re: 39 pickup wheel color ? I'd questioned the original poster as to whether or not he intended the vehicle to be point judged only as a matter of interest.
It should be common knowledge to any judge within that class, the wheels could be painted body color for a $5 upcharge. This particular example is not relative to fleet colors and perhaps I should have pointed that out. The $5 only got a buyer the wheels to match a factory offered color, IE a "stock" color. If memory serves this detail can be found in the salesman's handbook. Thus, a knowledgeable judge will know this prior to any judging and as such no further proof should be necessary for the owner to provide. |

Re: 39 pickup wheel color ? Mike,
I agree. One would hope that the judges always know at least as much, if not more than the car owner, but sadly that is not always the case. |
Re: 39 pickup wheel color ? Thank you all for the information.

As a fact of life, those old timers with first hand knowledge have for the most part moved on to that Fairlane in the sky, having been replaced by the young whippersnappers we see on the Barn these days. It's a learning experience, gotta give them credit for doing their best. Don't be bashful on calling them on a mistake, though. Just keep it civil and ask for the Chief Judge to rule on a question before you sign the judging sheet. This is standard procedure, nothing out of the ordinary. |
Re: 39 pickup wheel color ? I'd like to see one picture or "form". No matter how old you are... Black and White pictures make it more difficult for sure.
I've seen wide five caps other colors. I could not say they are factory. Not wheels ever. Standards maybe just an opinion. Not factory specs? I'm certainly not qualified to say. . |
