Rear axle question My nephew-in-law called me yesterday and asked me if I wanted a Winters rear axle. He sent me one photo and it looks to be a quick change. I know nothing about these. Does anyone know if these were well made and if gears and other parts are readily available. Thanks ahead of time, Craig.

Re: Rear axle question What would you use it in? They are of very good quality and parts are available. Popular on Hot Rods.

Re: Rear axle question There are a ton of parts available for Winters quick changes - from Winters and a lot of other folks. There are quite a few different models of Winters QC's - so I would try to get some good pictures of what he has, what comes with it, etc.. They have units that are designed for many types of racing, they have street units, they have units designed to mimic vintage bells, etc.. The most common ones will be their 10" QC's for dirt track and other racing applications. They also make a whole range of Streetrod and "V8" style rears - but those tend to be newer products that are usually already under cars.
Another thing to be aware of is there are many differential/spool, axle and gear options - knowing what is inside the unit is important in making decisions as to applicability for your usage. If you have to buy a new differential for the street and a new R&P, you can be spending a lot of $$$ on an old unit. Also, there are a lot of used and abused QC's out there - so it is important to know what you're getting into - before you take the plunge.
