1932 potential buy Hey guys, love this place..everyone is so helpful.,I am close to buying a 32 roadster ( my second) I have been told this is all original ford steel….how can I tell? I have a 32 but it has a brookville steel body and looks pretty dang good….they want more for the new 32 and I want to verify it is a legit original body….if I post pics, can you help me identify? Thank you

Re: 1932 potential buy We can try!

Re: 1932 potential buy Can you remove the interior panels and see if there are any patches in the lower quarters? Any signs of any body work? A patch panel means it is likely original.

Re: 1932 potential buy 2 Attachment(s)
There are numerous differences between a Brookville roadster body and a original body, with the three most obvious being the absence of raised pockets on the top of the quarter panels for the ends of wood tack strip that forms the back of the package tray (see photos below), the lack of a pronounced outward flare of the sides of the quarter panels immediately above the rear wheel houses, and the lack of the C-shaped steel channels under the bottom of the doors for the T-shaped rubber weather strips.
There are other less obvious differences in the doors, cowl, and floor. With respect, as not all original '32 bodies have had rust issues in their quarter panels, the absence of patch panels is not conclusive proof as to the body's origins. |

As David said. Also look at the inner door jamb and on the door where the male dovetail is secured. That should be indented so the screw plate is flush. On a Brookville roadster door I looked at 15 yrs ago it was smooth.Look at the indents for the striker and female dovetail-compare them to the Brookville. Here are pics of orig bodies.

Here are some pictures? Maybe these will help? The paper in the doors is cool, but anyone could place that in there. I really appreciate your help

Re: 1932 potential buy Unless modified, the red body is your photo is not an original given that the tops of the quarter panels on the sides of the seat back cushion are smooth and lack the pockets in the sheet metal for the wood rail as shown in my photos above.

Is this VIN correct? This is on the frame. So frame might be original, but body we are unsure

Re: 1932 potential buy Message retracted and edited
I have viewed the photos and do not want to offer an (armchair) opinion of the car. The body may very well be authentic, as well may be the frame. There is a lot of money riding on this car and I hope the seller and whoever buys it end up happy. Mart. |
Re: 1932 potential buy I've seen this car advertised on Instagram. I thought it said it was a Brookville. I'll try to find the ad.

Re: 1932 potential buy I am trying to PM but can’t. I agree. I can remove the VIN inappropriate

Re: 1932 potential buy Let me preface this with a low degree of confidence BUT that doesn't look like a "Ford" factory stamping to me!!!! DavidG (and others) will confirm. ALSO you can use the "search" function AS there have been varying post here on different aspects of the 32 frame stamp number ie. V8 v 4cyl, US v Canada etc etc with posted examples of!!
THANKS MART FOR CONFIRMATION OF WHAT I WAS AFRAID TO POST and the boost in my confidence/ability!!! "IF" you are "into" 32's which it seems your are AND you seem to be "very" concerned about "originality" for whatever your purpose.....You NEED to spend the money and buy the Early Ford V8 Clubs 1932 restoration books AS authored by DavidG!!! IT is an invaluable research AND reference guide. |

I think the car is awesome and love it. I don’t want to kill it or trash it. I just want to verify value. I also know it’s worth what you are willing to pay, but original versus reproduction goes into value. Thank you again for your help |
