What is the correct tire size for a 1940-41 Pickup?

What is the correct tire size for a 1940-41 Ford Pickup?

6:00 x 16? 6.50 x 16?

It is time to re-tire and want to know what the correct size should be.

Thank you in advance.

6:00 x 16 looks to be correct for stock pickup.

But 6.50 x 16 fills the fenders better and will give slightly better gearing. I think Wagner's 'Ford Trucks since 1905' shows them throughout that era as an option. James Wagner makes many comments about the tires shown in the black and white truck photos in his book.

16 x 6.00 are correct. I used 16 x 7.00 for my 38 truck the reason GB mentioned.

53' mainline cars ran 6.00. But the crestliners ran 7.00. So I figured I could fudge a little and still be okay.

I run 6.50's on mine. It looks pretty good on 'em I think.

6:50 was an authorized option. I run them on all of my '40 Fords. In my opinion, they appear so much nicer, more "in scale" to the vehicle, than the 6:00.

The 6:00 was what was installed upon the trucks leaving the factory if the larger (optional) sizes were not specified.

Your pickup is beautiful Mr. Kube. I guess those of us that follow your work would expect nothing less. Also I'm running 215 85 16 radials on my pickup based woodie. I would say equal to a 700 x 16 at 30".

No doubt Kubes vehicles are the best. No question. Amazing work.

I went with 6ply 7.00 coker military NDT's as they were cheaper option at the time. They grew on me and they were also an option for trucks in 38-41 WW2. Well not the 7.00 or civilian.
