1935-36 Coupe Rear Window Regulator Question

6 Attachment(s)
I dug these out of a friends barn that I've been helping sell parts for. The one on the right is off a 35-36 Coupe rear window panel and the one on the left is the LH rear door of a 1936 fordor. The one difference I've found is the arms on the rear window regulator have a slight bend in them and they are about 1/4" shorter OA.

My question is, has anyone used one of these LH rear door regulators successfully as a rear window regulator on a coupe? I've got two 35-36 rear window panels and the regulators seem difficult to come by and therefore have more value than a Fordor rear door regulator.

It looks like a pretty easy modification.

Thanks

This could also be a good heads up to anyone restoring a 1935 or 1936 Ford Coupe and can't find a window regulator for your rear window. This is a very easy modification with limited skills to accomplish. It would be nice to hear from someone who's used one though.

I also noticed the similarities a while ago - meant to follow up more but kind of forgot. Another difference is the handle shafts (square vs splined/threaded).

The one on the right I pulled off a 36 Coupe rear window panel and it has a square crank shaft.

I believe the differences are slight enough that the door regulator could be used with little or no modification.

Re: 1935-36 Coupe Rear Window Regulator Question

The sedan rear regulator has the same square shaft with a hole in shaft cross wise for the door handle. The coupe rear regulator has a square shaft but has a threaded hole parallel to the shaft for a screw to hold on the special tee handle. I looked at the similar design between these two and I only ended up using the spring for a friends 5w Coupe restoration.

Thanks Gary, that is good information to add.

Well as stated above, I was pretty sure that the Coupe handle shaft was drilled and threaded for attaching the handle, but I guess I was "out to lunch" on the type of shaft used (square not round splined) -- must have been thinking of the splined shaft and screw used for the windshield regulator handle.

By way of interest, the attached photo shows a somewhat different regulator mounting panel used, as found when removed from an early 1935 3W body which has shown several other differences from later production bodies.

Thanks, this is also good additional information. I believe the one I've got may be from a 1936 year although they may functionally interchange.
