1936 & 1937 Deluxe Pickups I saw an ad for a 1936 Deluxe pickup several years ago. The description did not give a detailed description of its differences. I had not seen another mentioned until recently I opened a copy of the EFV8 club book THE V8 ALBUM.
For both 36 & 37 it points out the production of a deluxe pickup for these years. I noticed on the Deluxe pickup offered a while back that it had twin side mount spare tires. What other options did the Deluxe pickup sport? |

Re: 1936 & 1937 Deluxe Pickups The Deluxe truck and commercial car package was available starting in May 1936 and cost an additional $35 for vehicles with a closed cab. The package included all of the following items:
Chrome Radiator Shell, Chrome Windshield Frame, Dual Horns with Chrome Top Cover and Trumpet, Dual Wipers, Chromium-Plated Mirror and Arm, Cigar Lighter and Ash Tray, Dome Light, Sliding Rear Window, and Sun Visor. These parts, as well as many other optional equipment could be ordered separately in 1935 and 1936 so some trucks and commercial cars could be factory equipped with some or all of these items independently of the factory Deluxe option. |
Re: 1936 & 1937 Deluxe Pickups That’s quite interesting. The pickup I saw did not display all of those options. The original owner must have added some but not all of the dealer options.
I’m going to look to see if I saved a photo. |

I Could not find the photo I had in mind but had these saved. Some non original items shown here. It does not appear to sport the list of items mentioned.
I bought a pair of what we think are original chromed 1935 mirror arms thinking they were for a 35 Passenger but turned out to be for a pickup. Maybe left over dealer stock. Another observation, the locking spare tire cap for the pickup was not included a deluxe option. another fun adventure in Ford’s history....... |

The chrome version of the pickup mirror arm used the same casting as the standard painted version. Instead of black paint, they were chrome plated. It's not hard to create either version from an original of either type mirror arm.
Since all of the parts making up the Deluxe version are bolt-on replacements, anyone can make up a Deluxe version, or some of it, providing they have the parts. I suspect Deluxe trucks and commercial cars were not common. The only data point I have is that of the over 1,300 1936 Model 51 panel trucks only 81 were ordered with the Deluxe package. One was the 3,000,000th truck and a picture showing Henry and Edsel standing next to this truck in Dearborn in May 1936 are usually available on line. You can see many of the Deluxe options in this picture. They even added a radio to this milestone truck! (The antenna for it is located below the long running board.) Hard to imagine back in the 1930's that work trucks got all these bells and whistles. |
