Carpet for 40 Coupe Are there any companies producing good original style carpet kits for 40 Ford cars? My car has the original carpet I think, but the mice have destroyed it. I will either need to find a good kit online or try to have someone local reproduce them from my smelly originals.
thank you Patrick |

The business coupe had a rubber mat up front and a heavy tar paper behind the seat - in the storage compartment. The coupe had a rubber mat up front and carpeting behind the split cushion front seat for the folks sitting in the auxiliary seats. You might check with Cartuche. If they don't supply it, any halfway decent upholstery shop can handle this. |
Re: Carpet for 40 Coupe I know you said "carpet" but Dennis carpenter also sells a rubber floor mat.

Well here are the pictures. Original rubber mat up front. Tar paper runs from back of cab to just about the front bolt hole for the seat. The carpet runs under the seat but does not go all the way to the front of the tar paper. There is no binding on the front of the carpet so perhaps it may have been cut back at some point but I am not sure as it is even with the tunnel carpet. If anyone has purchased a carpet set on line for a 40 coupe and was pleased with the quality and service please let me know.

Re: Carpet for 40 Coupe Looks like a pretty solid ol' coupe ya got there. Halfway scarce model at that.
Try Cartouche. Their quality and correctness aren't the best, but for lack of Lebaron, they may be your only alternative. I've heard from a number of very respectable restorer's that Cartuoche is okay if you have never experience Lebaron. |
Re: Carpet for 40 Coupe Thank you Kube. I will contact them to see what is available.

Re: Carpet for 40 Coupe I'd have a good local shop do the carpet the way you like. It shouldn't be that expensive?

Re: Carpet for 40 Coupe Speaking of rubber floor mats, I have a 49 Mercury Sport Sedan that I would like to install rubber floor mat in instead of carpet. I haven’t found any supplier that sells that. Does anyone know of a supplier that sells bulk rubber mat-like material that I could trim to fit? I hope this is ok to ask on this thread. Thanks

Many (most?) folks get this wrong so please, don't feel bad. What you suggest actually seems to make more sense. However, sensible or not, Henry Ford decided what to call these cars. The coupe with the auxiliary seats is a COUPE. The coupe with the package tray is a BUSINESS COUPE. |
Re: Carpet for 40 Coupe Ken that is the way it was explained to me also.
But We can't argue if Kube says it's so,,. It must so OOPS there he is just beat to it. |

Re: Carpet for 40 Coupe Indeed the Businesss Coupe has the opera seats, the 5-W Coupe does not.

When I was researching for my book, yikes, the things I'd learned was at times both amazing and surprising. Keeps it fun :) |
Re: Carpet for 40 Coupe Quote:
That's what the book, "90 Years of Ford" identified the 1940 Business Coupe as having, the two rear auxiliary seats that fold down. . |
