Re: Ford Cologne prewar video Hence the word Fahrvergnugen was born.
|
Re: Ford Cologne prewar video Fahrvergnügen (German pronunciation: [ˈfaːɐ̯fɛɐ̯ˌɡnyːɡn̩]) ( listen ) was an advertising slogan used by the German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen in a 1990 U.S. ad campaign that included a stick figure driving a Volkswagen car."Fahrvergnügen" means "driving enjoyment" in English (from fahren, "to drive," and Vergnügen, "enjoyment"). The term itself is not standard German but a neologism (compound noun) created especially for this advertising campaign. One of the tag lines incorporating the word was: "Fahrvergnügen: It's what makes a car a Volkswagen".

FROM the "Splitting Hairs" department......IT would be Koln Ger. NOT Cologne, which is "post war" or more modern History!!!!

Re: Ford Cologne prewar video Gee Rock, I didn't know that. Thanks for the info. I Googled Koln and found this.
Is Koln Germany the same as cologne? "Agrippina" was later dropped (except in Latin), and "Colonia" became the name of the city in its own right, which developed into modern German as Köln. "Cologne", the French version of the city's name, has become standard in English as well. Here's an interesting historical account from Roman times forward. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Cologne |
