1940 throttle return spring broken Can the return spring be replaced by pulling it up and off the shaft or do i have to take the shaft off of the firewall?
thanks kurt |
Re: 1940 throttle return spring broken Removing the assembly from the firewall makes it a little easier. I’ve done it both ways. Neither one is very easy.

Ok so last year I pull in a Bud’s place. Throttle goes wide open. Shut her down, vey the prob original return spring broke .
He comes out with a handful of throttle linkages with springs that he buys up at Swap Meets. We had to pull shifter off trans, unhook and remove heater. Remove linkage and replace spring. Hardest part is getting the bolts back in firewall with spring tension. You are going to want a tool similar to a “ Cotter Pin Extractor “ to pull up on bolt to align with firewall hole. Bought a couple new repro springs , threw one in glove box. Good Luck, Stretch |
