41 v8 lower radiator hose Sad I’m asking this but….
I’m replacing 1 of the lower radiator hoses and as you know they are S shaped. One end of the hose has about a 1 inch longer piece of pipe then the other. Depending on which way I place it it puts the hose just about touching the torsion bar or the other way it puts it within an inch of the fan blade. Is there a right way that this hose should be installed or is this just a fluke?? |
Re: 41 v8 lower radiator hose i just replaced mine on 1940 the long end goes on bottom if the top touches the torsion bar just dont put it too far on the water pump outlet,i put a heater hose nipple on mine what a pain in the butt

You will need to trim them to clear the sway bar. If I recall correctly (oh oh), it only requires about 3/4" to be removed from one end. |
Re: 41 v8 lower radiator hose Oldskool thanks .. As for the heater core hose I took a short piece of tubing had the fitting welded to it. All I do now when that hose needs to be replaced is cut the hose in the center removing approx an inch and clamp the insert into the middle of the new hose. I’m done messing with that fitting.

Re: 41 v8 lower radiator hose Thks guys I’ll cut 1/2 inch off I almost did that

1941 Mercury Radiator |
Re: 41 v8 lower radiator hose Mercman, I have that '41 Merc radiator in my car and cannot find lower hoses to fit. It's an odd thing, different from '41 Fords.

Re: 41 v8 lower radiator hose cadillac512, Sorry that I cannot help. I took that photo of my mates 1941 Mercury Radiator when it was out for cleaning. Regards Mercman <><

Re: 41 v8 lower radiator hose A question on the pic of the “41 Merc” radiator?? Just for those who may be purists in restorations didn’t it have a split core? My 41 did but it was to expensive to get it recored as original
|
Re: 41 v8 lower radiator hose I believe so. Mine has been recored as well and no longer has the split, but the car does have the hole for a crank and the nut for the crank to engage.

Re: 41 v8 lower radiator hose The split core was more expensive to recore even back in the day. It would be even more expensive now since it would require a wide core to be cut in two. A pretty big expense just to allow for use of a hand crank. Purists have no choice.

Re: 41 v8 lower radiator hose 1 Attachment(s)
Here is the pic —-approx 2” stainless steel with a brass nipple welded to it for attaching to the heater hose. The hose I just cut at the halfway point removed approx 1 inch and clamped it in place.
