Spring Time Work

Well, spring time is coming real soon. Starts warming up here in NC in mid March. I still have yet to get my 34 running. So my plan is to start from the beginning, send the distributor off to a known rebuilder, new condenser, new wires, and figure out how to check timing.

Any suggestions on where to send my distributor to get rebuilt would be great! Previously I sent it off to the guys over at C&G Ford in California. It is the dome style. Also any pointers on timing on a flathead like this would be great as well.

Thank you all!!

That is a "no-brainer"! Send it to "Charlie ny", one of our better-known, long-time members here on the 'Barn. He will even run your distributor on his test engine when he's done making it better than new. DD

The timing will be set when running on a distributor machine.

Charlie NY ran my distributor on his test engine after he rebuilt it & set the timing.
Bolted it on my engine 4yrs. ago , and haven't touched it since.
You can't go wrong with Charlie! - Bernie

I had Charlie rebuild my distributor on my 48 business coupe. Fired it up about a week back and thought this thing never ran so good. Should have done it years ago!

I know your post is about your distributor, but once that is done, if you're moving on to the carburetor, you might also talk to Charlie about that, too!!

As noted here many, many times, he is a gem!!!

Charlie rebuilt my carb, and I had him do two distributors, one helmet style and one crab for a spare motor, he does a great job.

Michael at 3rd Gen does them as well. IIRC

Thank you all for the suggestions! I will be getting in contact with Charlie real soon for him to rebuild my distributor and possibly my carb.
Again thank you all!

Another question, right now I have Autolite 386 plugs in my flat head. I’m fairly new to the flathead scene so I’m not completely sure if these are good plugs for a 34 flathead engine. From what I’ve seen a lot of plugs are better than using Champion plugs. Any suggestions?

3RD. Gen in Tenn. is much closer to you so shipping should be less plus the workmanship is way beyond excellent !
