39 pickup bed mounting questions.
 

I’m looking for photos or a diagram of where and how the bed mounting wood gets installed. As well as the metal cross members.

Any help is appreciated.

Are you going to replace the stock steel over wood bed or just do a wood bed?

Please elaborate what pieces you have. Are we talking about a self build? Most bed pieces from companies have all the rivet holes predrilled.


There are two wood "risers" in the front and back of the bed. Where did you get the wood? The metal inner frame also rides on the rear frame wheel "humps".



Please expand what you are asking please.

I have the two wood bed risers, and three stamped steel cross members.

Original bed sides, bulkhead, and tailgate.
I’m putting a plywood floor in the bed, likely with a custom rubber mat for now.

I did receive some photos on another forum which I believe will help me a bit. But I’m always willing to learn from you guys.

What is the large stamped area you are talking about?


The front wood section also connects to the cab wood on the 37-early trucks. On the later there is a block under it. Also the front wood support sits on the cross member. Which the picture above doesn't have. Leaving the bed tilled forward a few inches as it sets now in the picture.

As you can see I don't have the block under the front wood yet. This is prep pictures. All was removed again.

That's for the rear of the truck. Below the tailgate. It rivets to the frame with 2 rivets.


I can measure the block you need. It's just a block you can make from decent hardwood.

And I misspoke the 38 and later were integrated to the cab. 37 and earlier are short of the bed. I used a block as mine isn't integrated.

I just mounted the cab, and installed the cab wood a few days ago. I will lay out the supports and cross members tomorrow. I think the lack of the blocks was confusing me. I do see they sell some in the catalogs. But a measurement would help a bunch.

I have not forgotten to get you some measurements. Wasn't around and it's -20 tonight. I'll crawl under this weekend and take pictures and measurements.

I think the blocks are 3 1/2”. Not a rush. It’s pretty cold here too.

I tried crawling under tonight. But I was less then successful in getting a good measurement or picture in the cold and where it's located with the cross member. I admit I did not take much time in doing so.

I would suggest that you can use the measurement of the block based on the x-member relation to the bed wood cross piece. I used frame webbing also on the block to frame.

That’s exactly what I did. I laid a straight edge across the other crossmembers. I came up with 3 1/2”
