Three Carburetors I have a 36 ford coupe with a 8ba flathead I want to change two carburetors to three. Help ford barn
Need to move generator so that the three carburetor manifold will fit on the 8ba motor. |

Re: Three Carburetors You could also plant a fake carb between the two on there now if there's room. Have the look of a triple but still runs as good as a dual! 8^)

Of course you know that we really have no idea YET what you are starting with, other than an 8BA. For starters, you'll realistically need to change intake manifolds. AND, along similar lines with Jack's idea above, you can really simplify things by running ONE real (active) center carb, and run two fakers on the ends with a thin block-off plate at their bases. Re: Three Carburetors I think before we make any grand pronouncements, we should have a better idea about what other (if any) modifications that have been made to the engine (cam, displacement, etc.). And especially the ignition when it comes to non-stock carburetion.
Unless, of course, all the OP is interested in is looks. That's OK, too. |
Re: Three Carburetors Give us a bit more to go on. We have no idea as to what you have --> stock, mildly modified, cubic inches, cam, headers, ignition, transmission, rear-end gears, etc.. Have the 2 carbs been working well - is there an issue with them?
Also, what are the goals you have in going from 2 to 3 . . . WHY are you pondering doing this? The more we know, the more our opinions might actually be valuable . . . or not! LOL |

Re: Three Carburetors things to watch out for check your total cfm over what's required often common mistake is to much carb not enough eng that's why you often come across 1 or 2 dummy carbs as the just run better now that's said go for it saw one the other day that could only be described as a reverse tri power guy that owned it said it ran great and the centre carb as the secondary just topped up the top end nicely

Re: Three Carburetors And f.w.i.w., a reputable flathead tuner, told me, not too long ago,
that a 2 carb setup will outperform 3 carbs on a 3/4 race f-head street engine any day of the week - (especially on Sundays!) |
Re: Three Carburetors I'm going to add some even more fodder to this discussion. I went back and re-read some old post by Walt Dupont, Bruce Lancaster and Flatdog (over on the HAMB) and there are some that will say two is not enough, three is too much and four is just right.
Looking at the design of a 4X2 intake I can see some of the logic since one venturi of the each carb is feeding the the cylinder underneath it. I'll try to find some of the threads about it and post them here. |

Re: Three Carburetors After you get your 3 or 4 carb intake alll set up and ready to go. You'll have to replace the distributor sa well. The 8ba dist won't work right, it needs one special carb.
You could however, run a 3 duce intake with the proper carb in the middle and dunnies on each end and nobody would know the difference. Works like a Cheam $$$$$$$ Gramps |
