Buying my first A

Looking at my first A, 31 SW Town Sedan. Meeting up near Oklahoma City on Monday. Anyone want to tag along and dissuade me if it’s a beater? I can send you some pics. User ‘burner31’ is nearby, but I don’t have enough posts to pm anyone yet.

Good luck on your purchase, I always take lots of pictures and look at a car the second time if possible. Usually 1 st time they look good but sometimes looking at it again I find things not noticed the 1st time, also nice to have some one else along as per your post help see things might have missed. The S/W sedan is my favorite sedan body style.Remember my wife s favorite saying “easier to buy than sell”Seriously I hope it is a nice car , at least being a Model A parts are available for it. Best of luck.Gary

Bringing along a knowledgeable Model A person is a good idea. You can also get some clues by looking at the environment where the car is kept. Are there tools and extra parts on the walls? Or is there clutter not related to the car? Does the seller have hands that show lots of mechanical work with them?

Bring someone with you. There simple cars that could have a lot wrong with them. 90 plus years old, might have had many owners, each doing his thing.

Last car I sold, first buyer wanted to give me deposit on the spot. I told him no, go home and think about it and call me tomorrow. He ended up not buying car, but I had three other people waiting. Sold in five days on Hemmings.

Be sure to check if the title number matches the stamping on the engine block. If it does not research the titling requirements in your state. Be prepared to pass if titling will be a major issue. Good Luck.
