Just putting the final touches on my 3w. Need to paint the belt moulding
and pinstriped. Purchased it from the son of a ww2 vet that past away at 93. He ran out of time before he could finish it. It's been a two year project putting it all together. The vin and body # showing it to be a late year build. It must have spent most of its life inside. The body is in beautiful condition inside and out. I'll post some more pictures later. Need some advice on a couple of issues. Where would i find or how would i make the pads that are under the starter button and throttle rest? Body #B520A 12659 Trunk model. Thanks. |

Re: 32 3w NOT sure IF you have followed the tread on here on 32 3-Windows and getting all of the body numbers they can of what you listed.....IF not you can search that thread on here and add your body number to the list!!!!

Years ago a fellow hobbyist (RIP) made a few sets of those taupe rubber escutcheons for use on '32 deluxe closed cars with carpeting. Otherwise, they have not been reproduced. Your best bet is to make them up from scraps of the taupe rubber floor mat such as used on other '32s.

Re: 32 3w Mercguy (mobil101) started a thread back in Nov 2020 and provided his Murray body tag number at that time. I messaged the body number to "1932 Ford Deluxe 3W Coupe, Murray Body # informal registry,how many are still around?"
Mercguy's body tag number is 12659, my 3w body tag number is 12660, Consecutive Numbers! I doubt that both cars have consecutive vehicle serial numbers (VIN) but it would be interesting to find out just how far apart they are? |
Re: 32 3w Tom, my Vin# is 200647. I believe it to be the original body to the frame. My
daughter inlaw is helping me with posting pictures. I'm not tecky at all. A fellow V8 club member helped me find this car. Virgil Hanson was a well known Engine machinist in the area who just passed away this fall. He built many flatheads over the years. Hoping to show the car at the Western Nationals this summer. David, as far as the floor pads, it looks like the originals had a raised bead around the perimeter. I could make some out of an existing mat like you suggested. Would a judge allow that? |

Mercguy, Our serial numbers (vin#) are 211 digits apart, my sn is 200858, a fleet of tudors, fordors and 5ws in between. Definitely late production.
When I bought the car in the mid 60’s I found "EDGEWATER" stamped on the top pass side of the K member crossbeam. Just wondering if your car has the same stamping? Attached is a picture of the carpet next to the seat in the Gene Hetland 32 3W. Just a reminder that there were filler pieces alongside the seat. |

Re: 32 3w Tom, yes i have the carpet edge pieces in place. Don't remember seeing edgewater on
the K member. Of interest is the original wood filler pieces between the B pillar and seat. It had the original upholstering on both. It had a 1/2 inch wide flap on the front edge facing the seat presumably as an air stop. LB upholstery kit which was purchased in 2008 did not included enough material to cover the filler. Don't know if it was a mistake on their part or they didn't know that flap existed. The last picture doesn't show the B pillar filler and flap very well, but it is there. I'll pull up some old photos and post a better picture. |

As requested, the photo below depicts what I believe to be accurate reproductions of the three molded rubber components that were originally attached to the front carpeting of all North American deluxe closed cars (and cabriolet and convertible sedan). There is no bead around the perimeter of the two oval pieces, just molded-in roping noticeably inset from the outer edge. The dimensions are as follows: starter switch push rod oval - 2" x 2 1/2", accelerator foot rest oval - 2 3/4" x 3 1/2", and rectangular heel pad - 7 7/8" x 19 1/2".
As for judging, a reasonable approximation of the original pieces in terms of color and size would seem to merit much less of a deduction than their complete absence. |
Re: 32 3w David, Thanks for the picture. I cut my three rubber pieces out of a 33 front
mat. Looks to be the right color. I was concerned about a lack of beading on the foot rest and starter rod. I had considered making a mold to replicate the original. Sounds like I might be a little too anal. |
