who has (or is interested in) F-1 panel trucks?

I'm interested in swapping information and/or stories.

I've had my 1948 panel truck since February, 1973.

Also, if you know of any of these resting in salvage yards please speak up.

EDIT 1/5/2022: I named my panel "Clarence" back in the 70's when all of us hippies named our vehicles. So henceforth when I reference Clarence you'll know what I mean.

Mike/Atch,

My late brother had one in St. Louis... complete but rusty. It was sold 10-12 years ago. I believe Bob Lemen, a member of the StL chapter of the V8 club has one or two, or has had them thru the years. Since you're not too far away, he may be a guy to connect with. I have always thought they were really neat. Just watched an old movie the other day where a nice one was run over a cliff and destroyed! I have a '52 F-1 pickup that's restored and I love it. Has the OHV 6 and is really enjoyable to drive.
Regards
Bruce Williams

Bruce,

If you have any contact information for Mr. Lemen please PM it to me. Or email it to [email protected].

Thanx.

Sorry, the only one I want to unload would be a '47..... It came from the dry side of Washington on the other side of the mountains. Has a six and a 4 speed. Pretty rough and no title and in some ways I'd hate to get rid of it because it's a great place to store my collection of fenders. It sits on my other 5 acres alongside and I doubt I could ever retire without selling that parcel. I have joked that I'd give it away but you'd have to buy the beautiful set of rear doors stored in the back of it. I traded two nice running Model A engines for those doors.

b-t-w; the truck in that advertisement would be just about exactly what my panel truck (Clarence; see avatar) looked like when it left the factory. Except that Clarence never had the stainless add-ons on the grill bars.

No matter what year, rear Ford panel truck doors are made either from unobtanium or superpriceum.

Folks,
There is a guy on the FTE Ford Truck Enthusiast forum (Ohio47) that is going to put a panel truck body on a newer frame. ( in the older than 1947 threads) He has some parts that he is willing to part with. I think seats were one of the items.
Regards,
Chris

Me thinks old panel trucks are really cool. We see pickups at every car show, but how often do we get to see a panel truck? Feel the same about COEs. Really cool pieces of Americana history.

Panel seats are as rare as good rear doors. The passenger side was an option and even more rare.

When I bought Clarence in 1973 it had the "fold forward" passenger seat in it. Stupid me I put some sort of late model bucket seats in it sometime in the 80's. I have no idea what I did with those original seats. That sound you hear is me beating my head against the wall.

Re: who has (or is interested in) F-1 panel trucks?

The very first thing I ever owned was a 1950 F-1 panel it was 1971 she was V-8 powered with the heavy duty three speed transmission and the folding passenger seat cost me $25.00. Boy the fun times I had in that truck the memory's are amazing when they say don't come knocking if the trucks a rocking was truly part of the fun having that panel truck.

Sadly rust and life got in the way by 1980 she was in such bad shape all I could do was save some of the parts I still have the flathead engine, pedals and steering box all of the parts will one day go into my Deuce pickup truck.
That first flathead V-8 so long ago was the beginning of an amazing endless journey with flatheads. I will always have a soft spot for the F-1 who knows in a weak moment I would consider another for sure.

Yes; this thread is three years old and hasn't been responded to since it was pretty new. The refurbish/upgrade to Clarence was competed about 1 1/2 years ago and we put 8,xxx miles on it last summer. Here's Clarence now:
