1936 3 Window Coupe Seat Base In my search for an original seat I have looked at a number of posts / threads and there appears to be a couple of versions of the steel base. One type has a center front-to-back brace, the other does not have this brace. Otherwise the bases seem to be identical. Are they both original for 1936? Is the one without the brace possibly an early version and the other a later update / improvement? Thanks!

Re: 1936 3 Window Coupe Seat Base 1 Attachment(s)
I believe the one without the center reinforcement is early. Below is an original 35. There were two different manufactures of the seat adjusters, they are very different. They may have also made the steel pans???

Re: 1936 3 Window Coupe Seat Base Thanks for the info and photo. This one does look quite a bit different from others that have been shown on various older threads. A question - in your photo what looks to be one of the side pieces is behind the wood framework, and it appears to be steel sheet. Other posts have shown these pieces to be plywood on coupe seats. Is this yet another possible variation?

Original 1935 Ford Seat Base - Terry,OH |
Re: 1936 3 Window Coupe Seat Base The 35 Ford seat base has the center cross bar and the seat back is stationary, while the 36 seat base does not have the cross bar and it is hinged at the top.
The seat back can then be raised to access the area behind the seat. In addtion, on the passenger side it has a sliding bar and lock system that is similar, but not the same as the trunk sliding bar and lock system. Hope this helps. |

Re: 1936 3 Window Coupe Seat Base The seat side piece shown in my photos background is made of plywood.

Re: 1936 3 Window Coupe Seat Base Terry,OH - Thank you - I guess the plywood has just discolored and resembles rusty steel.

Re: 1936 3 Window Coupe Seat Base 3 Attachment(s)
Here are a couple pictures of my '36 seat.
The top edge is straight as compared to the arched top of the previously posted '35 seat. I believe to allow for the hinged backrest, I have had several seats, all '36 and all had the center piece in the steel base and the open center in the seat back wood. The end pieces have all been plywood. |
Re: 1936 3 Window Coupe Seat Base Possibly the straight seat back top is for coupes and the arched for cabriolets.
