1941 Door Handle

Occasionally when I turned the driver door handle down, it slipped and did not unlatch the door. If I pushed in on it and turned, it would work. That had me worried that I could end up locked out of the car if the passenger door was locked.

A little homework on door handles revealed that the screw at the base of the handle, under the weather seal, had worked loose. I was probably too timid when I put things together after replacing the springs in the latch mechanism. Tightened it up and that little scare is resolved. Maybe I will apply some loc-tite.

Just a reminder to all that that little bugger may need to be tightened up once in a while.

Hmmmm. Been thinking about removing the door cards and lubing everything up with a white lithium grease spray can. Seems like things should be working smoother. I'll check that screw while I'm at it. Wouldn't be the end of the world to get locked out but certainly an avoidable PITA.

Thanks for the post.
