Truck Engine I brought home
 

I am attempting to start the truck engine; this is what I found to date. Starter was not turning over, found a bolt and washer in the housing. Cleaned the starter terminal and ground. Installed the starter, worked great. Then spun the engine over without the spark plugs to check for oil pressure, gauge showed 20-25 psi.
Things went downhill, zero compression on all cylinders. Hopefully it is just stuck valves. Next, remove the intake for valve inspection, and maybe get compression to attempt startup.

Can't tell from the photos and don't know any of the history BUT if it has a truck pan with clean out you might want to drop the cover and make sure the pump doesn't have a bunch of crap clogging it even though you had oil pressure when you first cranked it. JMO.

Typical the valves will be hung open from many years of sitting. Once you get them back on the seats the mystery and excitement can continue.

Also, you might squirt some oil in all the cylinders to see if you can get some compression.

MMO is your friend, pour some down the intake, pour some in cylinders and spin over to disperse it. I have also used 50/50 ATF and acetone, this combo will also remove scrum, Good Luck!!

Did put oil in the cylinders, let it sit for two days. No luck LOL

I use a big allen wrench thru the spark plug holes to tap stuck valves down. Try to hit the center of the valve, not too violent

In my 8BA that came in my 41 pickup six valves were stuck, two required that I pull the heads because tapping through the plug holes didn't budge them. One was so stuck tapping with a hammer. Once they were lose and working I did all the normal reassembly. In the end those stuck valves guides were so lose more smoke come out the breath cap then the exhaust. Hope you have better luck, Tim

I like to squirt 50/50 mix in the cylinders. This will work allot better than MMO for freeing up valves and pistons,

It would be unusual to have zero on all cylinders from stuck valves meaning one valve on every cyl. would have to be open. can you feel anything with your thumb over spark plug hole while cranking?

I was just at a machine shop asking the young man (about 60 yo) if he worked on flathead V8’s and he laughed and said “no, I am basically a head machine shop now unless it is his own”. I asked him what you soak the top of pistons with to free them up. His response, my daddy started this shop and the guy that taught him how to machine said “straight Coca Cola”. I have a 59 that has been sitting for 40 years outside and had two spark plugs removed all that time. Those two holes are the worst of all of them. The Coke (not diet) has been in for 5 days now and I’m going to put the breaker bar to it after 7 days.
