I'd installed one for a client about two years ago. Fit was perfect.

Veeder, will the Carpenter tank accept the OEM gas tank sending unit?

That's something I can't recall. I want to say "no".

Veeder , Remember, only the stock gas tank sending unit will work accurately with the stock gauge.

If the 41 DC tank fit is similar to their version for the 46-48 models, there are a couple of issues. The sender does indeed need an adapter for the mounting screws. In addition, the hole for the sender itself is TOO SMALL. Be prepared to modify the tank to install the sender.

Carpenter is the only house that I found that offers a replacement tank with the pickup in the stock location. Other than having to mess with the physical opening and tossing the sender gasket provided (complete leaker), I have been satisfied.

Baffled me as well. Apparently the most common "restoration" involves aftermarket senders and an electric fuel pump.

Sorta separately, all the sellers describe these as 17 gallon tanks. And they can be if you are prepared to spew three of those gallons on the ground.

I see what you did there. I was also baffled at the lack of sender support. I cheaped out and used a TANKS inc tank and their aftermarket sender. The sender works with my original gauge on 6v.

Fritz, be sure to keep track of the accuracy of your fuel gauge reading at e. 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and FULL and let us know how many gallons are remaining in tank at each gauge mark, not just at E and FULL. I will be surprised your after market sending unit "works" accurately with your OEM gauge throughout its range of motion. Hope I am wrong.

Ha, you could be very right. I have not investigated that deeply. The sender has an adjustable float arm, and I do not believe I have it adjusted perfectly. It at least says “full” when fill it, and I put more in when it says a quarter full. I don’t know how accurate the original sender was with the gauge, but this gives me an idea of my usage when I drive it. It’s good enough for a driver.
