Oil dippers 1926 Tudor

I took the oil pan off today and I was surprised to find there was no oil dippers on the connecting rods is this normal?

Other items I found that piece of a broken piston ring lying in the oil pan, so I removed the pistons and found to different styles of pistons one piston has the 3 rings at the top.

Why am I not surprised that someone has been into this motor before.

Another thing I noticed is that when I loosed off#2 rod bolts the engine spin over with a lot less effort.

Dippers were not a factory part but added on later. The broken piston ring would not have escaped unless piston was removed. Maybe it got past the bore at installation and broke. Less drag on #2 tells me the engine was not run long enough to break that rod in.

Good to know, I had always heard from my grand father that they sometimes had to tow a car that just had the engine rebuilt.

Thanks

James
