49-50 Merc intermediate bellhousing

I've been buying some 49/50 Merc stamped steel intermediate bell housings that I clean up and resell to my customers buying my T5 Kit if they can't find one. Today as I was loading them in my truck to take to the blasters I noticed one was about a 1/2 inch deeper than the others. Anyone know what this fits as it sure won't work with my kits. Thanks

I have a couple 6 cylinder bell housings. They are the same depth as the V8 just with a different bolt pattern where they bolt to the block. This bell housing has the V8 bolt pattern.

I sold the deeper version I had to a fella on the barn here that needed it for a 6. Never heard back from him, so I have to assume it fit. Different bolt pattern I believe, and about 1/2" deeper. There was a thread on here, his was damaged some how, last winter I believe

A deeper half bell may be for some other 8BA family application. Mercury used the same half bell from the 1949 intro through very early 1951 but they all used the same basic transmission. 337 Lincoln & truck are altogether different as well as Ford cars & commercials.

I'd figure it must be for an industrial application but I certainly don't know what that might be. I don't know of any other transmissions that match the Mercury stamped steel half bell mounting but have a longer intput shaft.

Hey VanPelt where are you ? I've got 2 of those extra deep housings, only dumb luck
kept me from using one when I put my '32 together.

The 1949-51 Mercury Chassis Manual lists two separate bellhousing assemblies NOT used with with automatic transmissions. One part # is 8CM-6392 used in 1949-51 Mercs and then another with part # 1CM-6392 used in 1951 Mercs.
Part # AC 6392-D is also shown for use in 1952 Mercs with non-automatic transmissions.

The bell housing that came about for most of the 1951 Mercury production is a big full cast iron bell housing that is very similar to the ones used in 1952 & 53 in Ford and Mercury cars but they all had swing pedals. The 51 Mercs were till frame mounted.
