Re: cool old french ford for sale I can remember a post about the dangers of mounting the early flatheads to the engine stand the way this one is

Re: cool old french ford for sale I don't know if Denny (tubman) is in Mn. or in Fla, right now, but
that '36 Matford is located very, very close to his Mn. residence, right in his backyard. ;) . |
Re: cool old french ford for sale C'mon CAS... KINDA cool? It's cooler than cool and reasonably priced with all you get. Now hop in your truck and don't forget the trailer!!!! I love that thing. Thanks for sharing.

Re: cool old french ford for sale I live about 4 miles from the guy and have looked at it. It is a pretty solid car. I don't remember exactly, but he took the motor apart and replaced what was needed and has had it running. He didn't do a total "to the machine shop" rebuild. Straight up guy.

Re: cool old french ford for sale Not an expert, but I was under the impression that the European Fords had the 60 HP motor to avoid horsepower tax. It seems odd that this one has the big motor. My barn is full or I would be going to have a look at it

Plus, I think that car is just plain U G L Y.:o |
Re: cool old french ford for sale Denny, I have too many projects. I think the color makes it look uglier than it is, but I agree, it doesn't have the eye appeal of say, my '36 5 window. The owner did say something about he thought it should have had the 60hp, and he is somewhat confused by the grill--it is different than pictures that we can find on the internet. I think the 60 hp was standard in '36, but the '37 had the 85hp. And the front clip is a mix of '36 and '37 USA Fords--grill and hood similar to '37 and headlights and fenders similar to '36.

Re: cool old french ford for sale Hi Rod (sedishsteel), I just talked to Denny on the phone, and he said that
you would be the guy to talk to, as you have seen this ol' Matford, and you would know if it is a solid old body and frame, or not. Dennys right, It is Butt Ugly Rod, I will send you a PM shortly. thx, Lanny . |
Re: cool old french ford for sale .
Man, some of y'alls just ain't got no 'maginations. If the top of that grill was more finished-off like on the '38 below... https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/attac...3&d=1636662039 ....and the body was in "slinky" BLACK paint, maybe even continuing to incorporate that unique MATFORD side panel louver, and with killer 'big 'n little' rubber, all raked and with an attitude, that thing would be 'the tits'! But what do I know? DD |
Re: cool old french ford for sale I'm not an expert on these, but I think it is the UK built "22" model V8 (google "1938 ford 22") As it is LHD it must have been built for export. If you google "i938 matford" You will see the matford, while similar has different front fenders and distinctive faired in headlamps. I think the grille on the white/blue model has seen some home made repairs which alters the appearance at the top.
It is interesting that the motor is the 85hp type, probably swapped at some point and that it is sporting a dual intake which has the carbs reversed , probably to allow a generator to fit more easily in the stock location. I remember posting some ebay photos a while a go of a 22 in the UK. It has a big V8 logo on the back which is quite distinctive. Mart. |

Re: cool old french ford for sale That looks really nice, thanks Pete

Re: cool old french ford for sale I'm no expert on Matford, but I don't think that model had the 85hp at any time, it should have been 60. I have seen pictures of a couple still with the 4main motor. Has the grille been messed about to accommodate a 85hp radiator? They've made an ugly mess of it.

Re: cool old french ford for sale I found a web site in French that mentioned the Matford Alsace. it looks a lot like the one in the picture and I think the french text mentions 3.6l.
But when I google "1936 matford Alsace" the cars look like a regular 1936 Ford. However some pics do look like the subject car, a 37 looks like it has the v8 logo on the back, but has the faired in headlamps. Can't say for sure. The car could be a matford, they say it is, so the probability leans in that direction. Mart. |
Re: cool old french ford for sale I looked at this car this past Aug. It was for sale in the "car coral" at the St Cloud Mn show. Looked like it would make a fun project.
