Steering box oil level I just finished replacing the light switch on my 31 A and I tried to get as much of the old oil out as I could. I know that it should take 4.5 oz. to fill the box and in trying to refill it I could only about 2 oz. in until the kevel of the fluid was at the top of the fill hole.
1. Is there still lube left in the box after a light switch replacement? 2. when the steering box is full where should the kevel be. Thanks, Steve |
Re: Steering box oil level There will still be some oil in the box when you pull the light switch and tube. If you fill the thing to the top it will often, if not usually, leak oil into the switch and onto the ground. There is a longer tube available from the vendors to cure this problem. Then you can fill it full. I always fill it to the downhill edge of the fill hole.

Re: Steering box oil level Sorry, I don’t get the picture … taking the light switch off doesn’t cause the oil to drop out is it ? There should be an oil seal in the bottom of the steering box.
