1929 Model A Cabriolet

A friend was telling me yesterday that the Cabriolets were only made in 29,30,and 31. and that they were the most expensive of all of the A’s. Is this true?

Flamingo my friends doesn’t look at all like your avatar. His looks more like a roadster or convertible looking coupe with Landau chrome things on the sides. I believe he said his had roll up back windows

I heard that roadster trucks were the cheapest ones made

Re: 1929 Model A Cabriolet

that is relatively true. a town car cost considerably more, but that was a specialty item.

Re: 1929 Model A Cabriolet

For regular production the Cabriolet was the high end car untill the 400A came along.

Unlike the roadster you could be totally weather sealed with roll up windows, but still have a top that goes down. So they were much more expensive to build. The roadster was a simple light weight body and very cheap to build. But they were not weather sealed even with the side curtans.

The town car was not really a regular production car as it was not inteneded to be a car driven by regular people.

Maybe just a translation issue ("Cabriolet" versus "Roadster" auf Deutsch), so here is a scan from an original era 1931 Ford price list for Germany where you can see the prices listed in RM (Reichsmark):

https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/attac...1&d=1635091938

Where the "Roadster" is the least expensive and the "Cabriolet" is the second most expensive of the standard Ford produced cars in October 1931. (Note that the "Sport-Cabriolet mit Koffer" was only available in Germany (not in the USA) and that body was not made by Ford.)

Brad, is the 'notsitze', mentioned for the roadsters, what we in the US know as 'rumble seats'?

Thanks

Re: 1929 Model A Cabriolet

CABRIOLET mit notsitzen = with emergency seats
SPORT CABRIOLET mit Koffer = with suitcase

I guess that means with rumble seat or with trunk. Apparently they had that option overseas.

German reichsmark RM 4.23 = $100 US When I did the math the cost of the A in Germany was 68B/C $1,075 and Sport 68B/C $1,224 68 B/C. List price in US dollars $630

Yes, the "Sport-Cabriolet" could have been the Drauz Cabriolet (like in your photo) or one of the several other custom coachwork builders that supplied special convertible bodies for the Ford chassis at the time (Ambi-Budd, Gläser, Buhne, Hebmüller, Habsburg, Kühn, Harmening, Ludewig, Deutsch, etc, etc, etc....)

The "Combinations-Tudor" is a Tudor with a rear cargo door and removable back seat.
