Hershey Haul

Worth the trip…just missed a couple items, paid up for some and got great deals on others.

Highlights: NOS 30-31 quail, NOS heater, NOS cigar lighter, NOS keys, lots of 3x plugs, lots of valve stems, nearly new SW horn, mint fan, several sets 30-31 wind wing hardware, orig gas & rad caps, orig cloth tire cover, etc.

Will post pics when I’m able.

Re: Hershey Haul

There were some expensive items too. NOS 30-31 welled front fender asking $1,600… don’t know if it sold. 3x plugs from $3-35 for originals. I bought about 20, average probably $10-12 each. Lots of valve stems and hardware for $1-2 each. 30-31 gas and rad caps to be restored $5-10 each. Lots and lots of tools, too heavy to buy and carry.

Don’t ask about the NOS quail and heater, suffice to say I had to write a check.

The good stuff generally carried a premium but there were deals to be had.

Yeah, Friday was strange with a lot of folks packing up before lunch and gone soon afterwards. I did the park side the bridge walking every row. Lots of interesting stuff there but literally too much to pick through every pile looking for gems. Hurt so bad I woke up at 3am needing some ibuprofen...

I picked up an early black painted over nickel '28ish radiator surround and a SW volt meter that I'm not going to use. Looked for a good mechanical oil pressure gauge and some other bits for the speedster.

The eagle eyed may spot some non Model “A” items. These were intentional purchases.

I sold 35$ of stuff I found in the trash Thursday, --- sold some of it for more than on the price sticker, bought this box of NOS small generator/starter parts ---- paid more than I wanted to but less than my trash profit, got a model T engine with engine stand, sideways mount adapter for 10$, Babbitt bad but cylinders only.007 over standard, --- the wheels on the stand went over 3/4 mile and still look fine ----- great weather, lots of stuff, more vendors than I expected

Hershey certainly did not disappoint this year. I found a lot of stuff, and some that I shipped due to size and weight. There was an unbelievable abundance of NOS sheet metal this year. I'm counting down the days 'till Hershey 2022!

a good amount of vendors for sure, there was definitely a lack of foreign travelers this year. To be expected though I suppose...

Re: Hershey Haul

We had a great Hershey, we may have been one of the vendors with the I don't want to take it home prices. But we try to price fairly and sold a ton of Model A stuff. We were busy enough that the boss didn't want me roaming to much so I mostly looked around in the green field where we're located. Most prices I saw we more than fair and there were plenty of good deals to be had. Even with the lack of foreigners we managed to have a decent 31 front fender go to Norway (thanks Sven).
The best part for us was seeing that our Hershey friends and swap space neighbors made it through the virus. It was just great to be there and see everyone the rest is just the icing on the cake.

Found the crowd down a bit, but definitively a buyers market, many hard to find items found this year at very reasonable prices. Actually had to make a trip to the ATM to get more cash,

weather was perfect, many unique items and cars, already looking forward to next year!!

Re: Hershey Haul

mercman from oz,

You noted that Gary karr had a great haul at Hershey. Gary is no doubt one of the best at finding coveted Model A parts. One year at Hershey I went through a swap space. Found nothing. Later that day, at that exact space Gary found a box of NOS radiator hoses.

That first photo shows a taillight. It should be noted that it is a script "tuna can" and a script license plate holder. Amazing!

Gary looks in every box. Knowledge and effort make a good swap picker. That said, Incognito-A is also very good at the skill. Good to see that there are still some remarkable Model A parts to be found.

Re: Hershey Haul

So much is luck and timing. Was reading back issues of Model A News (Technically Speaking Vol. 10) and found an article by Doc Kalinka describing a trip to Turlock Swap Meet in 1998 when he found a three drawer Ford parts bin filled with nos small parts. I was there and remember this event. Good for him, he travelled the farthest but all us locals missed it. Really miss Doc.

Yes indeed a number of my finds were at the bottom of boxes. You get the deals at the spaces with no other ‘A’ parts.

Having to ship large items makes it hard to make those purchases at any price. Maybe next year I’ll find an excuse to make the drive!
