Sheridan Overdrive Transmission

Have heard about the Sheridan OverDrive Transmissions that are modified to be used in Model A's. I would like to hear from actual users as to their
ease of installation, satisfaction with performance, speed increase, etc. if possible before perhaps going that route. Many thanks!

Re: Sheridan Overdrive Transmission

I have one in my 31 tudor. We have put about 15,000 miles on the car with the setup.
Sheridan's use the same top loading over drive F150/Bronco transmission that others do that I have read about in this forum. I know Tim Sheridan is busy making and selling several setup per month. This is what I remember about the setup. It comes with a top loading transmission adapted to bolt up to the Model A bell housing. The drive shaft Torque tube and radius pods are shortened. It also comes with a lightened flywheel with V-8 Pressure plate. Everything is just a bolt in.
About half of our Local club have Tim's setup in their cars. In overdrive my top end was not any faster because I ran out of power, that is until I installed a hi compression head. Then I could go faster than I wanted to travel.

Thanks Cal for your information. Was there a reason why you went with the Sheridan set up rather than going with the Mitchell modified A transmission with synchro gears and 15% higher gearing?

Re: Sheridan Overdrive Transmission

The Mitchell transmission is the same in 3rd gear as the stock Model A -- 1:1, no overdrive. Mitchel's overdrive is a separate unit.

Re: Sheridan Overdrive Transmission

Well for the first reason, the Sheridans live 4 miles from my place. At the time the cost of the overdrive system was less than the price of any other. I just talked to Tim Sheridan.
he said he is getting $1495 at the present if he supplies everything. Tim's number is 616-837-6477.
