Ron Kelley

A post on the H.A.M.B. monthly Banger Meet said that Ron had laid down his tools....
Link was provided to a post on The Other Forum, which said he had passed away from COVID a week or so ago. Memorial service to be this Saturday in Rockwall, Tx.
Wear your masks, folks, we need all of us to beat the virus.

Yeah Tom, I also learned on social media that RK had passed about a week or so ago due to Covid. While I did not always agree with some of his ideas, he definitely was known to be an innovator. I first met him in the late 90s when we were all on the Great Race. Around that time, there was a new class for young students that was called the X Cup. There was a group on the race that year (I think we were going from Marietta to Anaheim) from Ponca City, OK who had a car that developed engine trouble about the time we were entering Texas. Ron took the team to his shop to see if he could salvage the engine, and ultimately Ron loaned them a 28/29 Roadster from his collection for them to finish the race. That year, Ron and his wife Beverly?? were competing with a DeLuxe Delivery. His generosity likely impacted many student's lives that year. God Speed to Ron, and comfort to his family.

Ron was a great asset to this hobby of ours. The messages on my answering machine from him always started the same- with his distinctive Texas drawl!
St. Peter will certainly have a well running Model A now that Ron is building engines in his new shop. Take care my friend!
