1936 woodie gas tank

went to start my 36 woodie for the first time today. all new completely restored car. new drake tank. have both a mechanical and electric pump. put 4 gallons of gas in the tank and could not get the electric or the mechanical pump to prime. took hose off of pump inlet and out it in a gas tank primed right away and started up and ran great on the mechanical or the electric pump. with nothing in the outlet bung on the tank no fuel comes out. any suggestions

Sounds like you're pulling air. Either a leak at a fitting, or the in-tank tube doesn't extend low enough in the tank to pick up the fuel.
