Steering box washers In disassembling my steering box I took photos of every part as I went--good thing! The end plate did not have an anti-leak tube, and right behind the light switch bracket were a concave steel washer and a thick cork washer / spacer.
Reassembling the box, and using an end plate with tube, Les' sketch does not show the washer or cork piece. What are their function? I would attach a photo if the website would allow. |
Re: Steering box washers I think those are eliminated if you're using the plate w/tube. I could be wrong. Bratton's has a diagram here and I think the parts you're talking about are numbers 38 and 6.

Re: Steering box washers I think you are right. I just checked, and the hole in the two parts isn't big enough to accommodate the horn rod.

Re: Steering box washers You are referring to the original seal for the bottom of the steering box. They are not used with the new type of end plate with the tube.
