2 Tooth Steering Sector
 

I’m searching for a new steering sector 2 tooth. Seems the vendors are out of stock. Anyone have any leads, I’m not wanting a used shaft.

Better change the worm gear also. The wear is in the center of the worm and a new sector won't fix it. When you adjust the new sector teeth down to the worn worm in the center, it will bind when off center. A lot of people put in just the new sector and say their steering is better. Did not work for me.

I got a sector shaft, steering shaft with worm attached and other box rebuilding parts from Snyders a few weeks ago.

Spoke with Snyder’s yesterday and he said they are out of stock and no idea when they’ll have them

End of august …. Spoke to Don yesterday. They are coming and as always our suppliers work very hard to meet demand but production and delivery have been major challenges for them.

Sounds reassuring, my friend that is in need spoke to Don on Monday and he said he didn’t have any idea when they would be available. My friend is 85 and makes and supplies a few items for Snyder’s, so he knows Don personally.

I replaced both worm and sector on mine. Quite a chore getting that old worm off and new one on without damaging hollow shaft.

I bought the worm and shaft combo after reading it could be a bear getting it off. Seems a two arm puller works real well though.

Getting the worm off the shaft is fairly easy, getting the new worm on is the difficult part.

There is a video available that taps the shaft and uses an impact wrench to push the new worm unto the shaft. I have used it a number of times and it works well. I believe it uses a 5/8 inch tap fine thread.

Whats wrong with yours?

If the teeth are only slightly worn you can have the shaft ground to a round size. Then have custom fitted bushings made up.

Mine was not easy at all to get off or on. I had to resort to fire wrench. I made a special press set up with a hollow pipe and hydraulic jack. I packed sand around it to keep hollow shaft from deforming.

I had spoken to Don and the supplier got back to him the same day…. Don called me back and gave me the news. Just passing it along so help you guys. The supply chain is a little messed up right now but know folks like Brattons , Snyder’s , Berts , and more are doing what they can to get their stock in.

Vendors list them but not in stock, regardless of what their ad says. And I highly doubt MACS makes anything except for a large profit.

And that's a good thing. We need enough profit in the business to keep the business healthy and able to weather a storm... like when COVID hits and supply lines get disrupted and sales go down.

FWIW, I've found that square tubing works well when working w/long objects in a press. It take a heck of a lot more force to deform the square tubing compared to pipe.
