So what kind of driving for this year? Its off to a bad start... GAS Friday nite hit $4.07[city $4.17] , $3.97 and $3.76..a gallon ..Takes the wind kinda for hitting flea markets and shows .Getting calls on pick and choose which ones... Its a bitch when you have diesel truck for towing a car/trailer. Its $4.17.

Re: So what kind of driving for this year? look at the mpg's your saving by not having a gas truck pulling a trailer..

Re: So what kind of driving for this year? Well lets see, here is my general itenerary for the next few months...
March 6-10 in Ocala, FL driving about 400 miles in a Model T (plus 1,200 miles RT there and back in the Hauler - 8mpg) March 16-18 in Chickasha, OK (about 2,000 miles RT) March 25-27 in St Augustine, FL for MARC Membership Meet. April & May misc business trips and events such as Charlotte AutoFair, etc. June 5-10 driving about 400 miles in Stowe, VT in Model Ts with family. Fuel for 2 Model T's for 400 miles, --plus 2500 miles in Hauler transporting them to & from Stowe. Then our plans are at the end of June drive 2400 miles each way to the MARC National Meet in San Diego. July 22-27 will find us on family vacation in Rochester, MN at the National Model T Tour with 3 Model T's (one for Pennie & I, one for daughter BreAnna & friend, and one for 16y.o. son Blake & his buddy), ...each traveling about 450 miles that week. (About 2,000 miles RT on that tour to & from event.) plus all the logistics (hotel rooms, meals, souvineers, etc.) for the family & our guests . Louisville, KY for NSRA in August, Hershey in October, throw in a couple of AACA meets, and weekend jaunts in the old cars, and it will be "life as normal". My point is that even though crude oil prices fell a few days ago, I know I am gonna pay more for fuel this summer but what I have realized is that everything in life has 'obstacles'. I just work a little harder (a few more hours) to subsidize what I enjoy doing together with my family. One never knows what tomorrow will hold, and if I waited until I had more money, --or until I felt the economy was better, I would miss out on many things that I will only get one chance to do. I guess that is why I choose to be a Glass is ½ full type of guy! I just look for opportunities and ways to make it happen with what I have available to me. .. |
Re: So what kind of driving for this year? August 1-9 Tour Michigan & Wisconsin with Penn Ohio Model A Ford Club.
Monthly Meets throughout Northern Ohio and Western PA. Drive "A" to work when nice weather threatens! In 2008, we toured Finger Lakes Region of New York. We paid as much as 4.26 for gas that summer, but still had a great time. |
Re: So what kind of driving for this year? Price of fuel, ETC going to effect a LOT of people. Will have to choose carefully which (and where) "shows" to attend. Actually it's too bad because most of the shows around here support some type of "project, charity, etc. I think the freebie cruises (local) will benefit from the rise in fuel prices. JMO

Re: So what kind of driving for this year? Del, will you be driving Wisconsin's Door County??
------------------------------------------- For us, St Augustine, or Bust! Will also be doing Fingers Lakes, and Stowe, Vt again this year. Life's too short. |
Re: So what kind of driving for this year? A.A.C.A. National meet, North Carolina is out for me[12 hours one way]. A.A.C.A.National meet ,Vermont in May still on[6 hours one way]. Hershey , no brainer i'm there. Most locale shows ,not looking good.My 350 Ford diesel gets 8 miles . Some say to drive to MARC meet in June from[east coast] N.Y. will be close to $5,000 round trip[8 miles to a gallon ,Diesel]... Working longer hours to support a drive to a meet is not my cup of tea. Working longer hours are just to stay in business is.

Re: So what kind of driving for this year? Imagine all the North American Model A'rs joining the MODEL A FORD RALLY in NEW ZEALAND in April this year. Now there's an enjoyable driving experience.
Not sure how the tragic earthquake will impact this year's event as Christchurch was on the rally intinerary. So sad to hear the news reports. Still trying to get a hold of people there. :( |

Door County is on the peninsula of Lake Michigan, just northeast of Green Bay, WI (Go Packers!!!) It has a Cape Cod flavor with great Model A roads. http://www.doorcounty.com/planyourtr...activemap.aspx http://www.doorcounty.com/index.aspx |
Re: So what kind of driving for this year? Brent,
I enjoyed your post! It puts things into perspective and is very similar to my wifes' philosphy; "Have as much fun and laugh as much as possible everyday"! I respect my wife and her 'philosophies' and feel she is successful in life because of them. I believe the same would be true for you! Keep on T'n! Regards, Evan |
