There are two flat, semi-circular springs, about 3/4" wide, that hold the glove box lid closed on the 1937 Ford passenger cars.

I first install both springs in the two slots in the dashboard, then I used a piece of 12 ga. solid copper electrical wire to make a loop to pull the spring out to latch it on the door. Pull with one hand and push the spring over the lip with your thumb.

Note, my pictures do not show the spring properly latched on the door. The spring when properly installed will be over the lowest rolled edge of the door. The spring won't have any tension if you put it in the wrong place.

That looks like a winner and I'll try it in the morning. Thanks again

What holds the door on to the dash? I see that the springs are available new, but I can not tell what secures the door to the dash.

A hinge all the way across the bottom of the door.

If you find someone with the reproduction springs in stock, BUY THEM. The wholesale vendor (Vintique) has been out of stock for a couple of years.

Re: 37 glovebox

If there is a hinge mine must be separated from the door somehow, and last I looked there was nothing attached to the dash in the car still.

There are three flathead screws with acorn nuts and I believe lock washers that attach the glove box door to the dash. You can see the acorn nuts in the picture in post #12. The cardboard finish piece is missing in the glove box door in this picture. It would have been covered in a material that was kin to headliner material. It may have even been the same material.

Other than some pitting, I can't see where anything was ever attache at the bottom. I will have to check the dash again for hardware.

Re: 37 glovebox

That’s because your hinge has completely rusty off. You can see the ragged edge where it used to be.

Re: 37 glovebox

Looks like I will be doing some fabrication then with a piano hinge. I got the piece off of the dash and sand blasted it, and I can see better now where it clearly separated from the glove box door. It should be an easy fix where the door would hide the repair anyways.
