Clam shell cover over spare tire. 1 Attachment(s)
Just got a 36 Humpback, and really not sure how to remove the clamshell covering the spare tire on the back of my Humpback. What is the trick so that I don't screw up a $300.00 part? Thanks for any help, I'm a lost ball in high weeds with this thing.

Re: Clam shell cover over spare tire. To remove the outer ring you simply grab ahold of the loop at the bottom of the outer ring and pull it down and out towards you. The rubber ring around the faceplate, in theory, protects the faceplate when you pull the outer ring off as described. Good luck.

One technique is to not fuss with the trim ring and center dish while it's on the car. Get the lug nuts off and the whole assembly in a more manageable place. Deflating the tire might help. |

Remove the outer rim first, then pull down the hinged hubcap to reveal the lock. Use key and this cover will come off leaving the spare wheel held onto the mount with three lugs. Hope that this helps. |

Re: Clam shell cover over spare tire. Tom,
On a '36 the center section is held in place by the lock, not by the outer ring, unlike the previous model years' versions. |
Re: Clam shell cover over spare tire. Thanks, everyone, I didn't want to damage the clamshell, by just yanking it off, but apparently, that's what you do.

Hi A shot from the back showing the lugs , dont force the key , maybe spray crc down the lock , once you have the outer surround off , carefully pry the front enough to get some spray down on the lugs as they do get seized up at times. Good luck
