Starting Question

When depressing the starter foot switch, the engagement will turn the engine over 3-4 good revolutions, then... nothing, press the foot switch again, same result. Once I catch it just right, the engine starts and runs just fine.
It may take up to 5 of those short intervals for it to start..

Wondering if you have any ideas.? I am going to put a spare starter this week to further try and isolate the problem.. thanks, kb

Re: Starting Question

Hmm, I'm surprised it takes 3-4 spins for the engine to start.

Re: Starting Question

For my car, I open the GAV about one half turn, press the starter, pull the choke rod after about one revolution, and the car starts almost immediately. As soon as I starts, I release the choke rod. Holding the choke rod out too long will flood my car. Once the engine warms up a bit, I can close the GAV.

Re: Starting Question

I guess I should clarify just a bit.. the starter stops turning..!
Not that it wouldn't start..the starter just stops spinning.!
Maybe I'll bench test it today since I've already pulled it out, and we'll go from there. Thanks..kb

Re: Starting Question

You might be having issues with the starter switch or the starter or even the battery might have a cell going bad. You can have the battery load tested quite easily.

Battery Tester may show it to be good but infact it's not ,Have it load tested! I know purchased 3 batteries from hardware store, installed worked for couple starts! Went to NAPA all good!

Re: Starting Question

Do it a few times and quickly feel all connections between the battery and the starter. If you feel a hot spot, your problem is probably there.
