Fuel tank sending unit 40 ford

I have searched the topic here, and read the posts about "ohm" style, not compatible with our K S units.

Is there a good solution for replacement sending unit?

I have found that there is not a 40 Ford replacement sending unit compatible with the OEM fuel gauge. I have also found that other year 6V Ford King Sealy sending units will work with the 40 gauge if you patiently adjust the little Star wheel inside the unit and adjust the float arm. It takes a lot of time and patience. You may also have to cut and solder the float arm to length. Make sure your float doesn't have a hairline crack that allows gas to seep in.

This problem has been discussed many times on Fordbarn. Do a search on Gas Tank Sending Units and lots of info. appears.

Here's a start.

I used a 10-73 ohm sender(Yogi's street rods) in my '41 . Used a Ron Francis VR1 12-6V voltage reducer . E was empty, F was full. It's a 5 bolt sender not 6 so if you have a stock tank may have to make an adapter.

Outsider.....I had the same problem....the gauge works very slow but I got it pretty accurate. I bought a gauge from C & G and just kept working on the adjustment. I must have put it in and out 20 times, but I finally got it to work pretty well. It just takes time.

C&G is a Ford parts vendor in California. GOOGLE it, I've bought quite a lot from them. Top notch service.

I think all of the ohm style units are the same, doesn't much matter the source. They can be made to work with a lot of messing, but they never work totally correct. You are better off with an origin KS unit if you can find one. The original may only need a little loving care to get it working. The points are the most likely source of problems, they need cleaned after years of service.
