engine don't keep running after start Checked all electrical and timing several times. Used small gas tank to eliminate fuel not getting to carb. changed from zenith toTillotson to Zenith. Starts good but dies in few second. Can pull choke when dying and will ruin a little longer by this it run about 60 seconds then backfire loud and quits. Help I feel like I've tried everything and I've worked on A's for 20 plus years. still don't know it all

engine don't keep running after start If you have the same problem with multiple carburetors and a non-gas tank source of fuel, could your coil or ammeter be going bad? Are you getting good spark at points and plugs? A jumper wire across the junction box will take to the ammeter out of the equation.

Re: engine don't keep running after start Could be a bad condenser.

Re: engine don't keep running after start Yep. Probably electrical. A friends Model A would go for 10 miles and quit running after about 10 miles of driving. After a cool down, he could limp it back home. It did this repeatedly. Long story short, it was his original coil that would heat up after 10 miles of driving. Replaced the coil and all is fine. As stated above, it could also be the condenser or ammeter.

Re: engine don't keep running after start My problem was similar and once I replaced the condenser it run just fine. I installed an A&L condenser.

Re: engine don't keep running after start I had condenser problems with mine. Sounds like the same thing.

Re: engine don't keep running after start Coil or condenser?
|
Re: engine don't keep running after start Don't start replacing parts until you at least generally narrow it down. Lift a spark plug strap, watch for steady strong spark. If its weak and erratic, start looking at ignition.
|
Re: engine don't keep running after start I'm hoping you've already tried undoing the fuel line at the carb and have a strong stream of gas there.

Re: engine don't keep running after start How old is you gas? Corn gas doesn't last like corn free gas does.

Re: engine don't keep running after start I did and its good

Re: engine don't keep running after start The gas is new spark is good and I did put new condenser in. no change

Re: engine don't keep running after start borrowed another rebuilt carb will try that tomorrow

Re: engine don't keep running after start Good Evening...One suggestion...It has happened twice on cars in our club. If you have the little fuse holder on the side of the starter, it can become lose at the swedge or rivet. Particularly the older ones that were made of lighter metal...simply remove the fuse holder and see what happens...The fuse can also burn inside the chrome end and look good, but be barely functioning...put a fresh 30 amp fuse in and see what happens...Ernie in Arizona

Re: engine don't keep running after start By-pass the ignition switch to eliminate the switch and wiring
