1929 rpu front and rear wheel studs

Hi Guys : I am trying to bolt on new style Ford rims with the correct bolt pattern onto my 1929 Ford RPU ,, but the 1/2 -20 wheel studs are too short. There is only 3/8ths of an inch of the wheel studs exposed which is not enough. Does anyone out there know of a longer wheel stud that will fit my existing hubs. The front studs are swaged in and the rear studs are pressed in with very little or no clearance on the rear of the hub so they clear the brake parts. I'm looking for wheel studs that are just like the factory ones ,, only 1/2 inch longer and I can't be the only person who has run into this problem. Thank you for your time to read this.
Regards

Re: 1929 rpu front and rear wheel studs

Early and later hubs and wheels were not compatible. This was discussed in the Service Bulletins, page 328. To quote: "Do not install a new wheel on an old brake drum as the new wheel shell is too long for the old hub and there will not be sufficient threads to hold the wheel bolt nuts securely." The opposite is true when installing old wheels on the new hubs. The shell is the outside diameter of the inner part of the wheel where the spokes attach. It butts up against the hub to make a secure mounting for the wheel. Longer studs will not fix this problem. You will need new brake drums. Buy or borrow a copy of the Service Bulletins to see the problem.

If the "new style Ford rims" are the ones made after 1940 this explains your problem: https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showt...=1#post1286293

Re: 1929 rpu front and rear wheel studs

Thank You N and Charlie for your replies. So it appears the two step drums/hubs don't allow a flat new style 2020 rim to fit them so i'm buying 4 new hubs and 4 new drums to make these new wheels work on the 1929 backing plates. Do i have that correct? Lets hope anyway !

Greg
