Carburater Took my Tollison carb. off - could’t (adjust) it to make the engine run right. One of my A friends said, use a Zenith it’s a better carb. So, I bought a used Zenith on eBay. Wow, good deal $89.00 dollars. The It was a ##$&@* mess. Cleaned it, then proceeded to disassemble it for soaking and then the air compressor and then rebuild time. It must have been put together by a gorilla- I broke the idle needle valve off, so I had to carefully drill it out and use a come-along to get the rest of the tiny nipple out. I sent to Mikes Ford a Bull for a rebuild kit. It came with the three needle valves, but the replacement idle valve (the one I broke) is longer. It installs OK, but it is longer in length. It goes up into the venteare. Has anyone experienced this situation? I have not installed this rebuilt carburater yet. It’s ready to be installed, but I have been temporarily layer-up.

Re: Carburater Jvee34! Did you rebuild the Zenith ? If so, did it replace the idle jet with one that is longer in length?

Re: Carburater The longer idle Jet is only for the EARLY 1928 Double Venturi carburetors ( the ones without the brass secondary well insert in the lower casting).
If longer idle jet is used in newer carbs with the brass secondary well, the longer idle jet will be bent when you tighten up the bolt! |
Re: Carburater Benson, what is the lower brass extension? The idle jet, that I ordered was 9/32 “ to fit the place where the old one was (the one, that I role off). It is longer in length and it fits up into the venturi. I may install the carb. today.....I have been out of commission- hurt my leg.

The brass extension is called the secondary well. It sounds like there might be a misunderstanding on the name of the parts. Also sounds like maybe some previous owner installed parts in the wrong locations. 1. The idle jet is next to the venturi (but the long end of jet) does not go into the venturi it goes into the secondary well. 2. The idle jet screws into upper casting and the longer end goes into the brass secondary well located in the lower casting. Please scroll through all of this page and look at all of the photos and descriptions of the parts. http://model-a.org/components_full.html |
