Electric Fan swap? Advice? Good morning, since I don't have a stock fan set up I was considering using an electric fan. I think it might cool better, may take some load off the stock engine and since I don't have a stock fan and pully set up I could use that money towards the electric fan...Any advice

Re: Electric Fan swap? Advice? I can’t help with the electric fan because I’ve never used one. You’ll still need a pulley to run the water pump belt/belts somehow...... Mark

Thought that '40 had a crank mounted fan?? (no pulley setup required)

Re: Electric Fan swap? Advice? I ran an electric fan for years and got the correct size belt for the alt & water pumps on my 52 F-1. I controlled the fan with an adjustable thermo switch I believe I got fan and switch from Ron Francis Wiring. (18 yrs ago) Set up worked great and helped the fan to run at idle. You can set it up on a "constant" power wire in which case it will run when you park the vehicle until temp lowers. I ran it off an acc. power source because I didn't like it drawing power while parked. Chap

Re: Electric Fan swap? Advice? What engine is in it? I Run both the Mech. fan & added a Spal push fan on the front of my radiator between the grill & radiator. U barely see the electric & with thermo switch sending unit from water port in head it’s great & only run when it hits whatever temp u i it at. Mine only comes on when at a stop or stop & go traffic.

Re: Electric Fan swap? Advice? I think your right. I've seen fans mount up in front of the gen and down off the crank...mines not anywhere to be found. I'll look for some pics of original trucks

That PULLEY/CRANK EXTENSION ought to look like the piece pictured. The fan flange bolts to the pulley flange. The PULLEY end slides over the crankshaft snout. DD https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/attac...8&d=1617418499 |
Re: Electric Fan swap? Advice? I think he has an 8BA he is planning on installing since there is no stock engine.
He may not be aware of the basic difference between the stock '40 fan setup vs. the 8BA. |
Re: Electric Fan swap? Advice? Junk yards are full of electric fans and controllers. I don't see the point of building a mechanical fan After building a few, I decided it made more sense to go eletric. JMO

Re: Electric Fan swap? Advice? Tubman, your right I have an 8BA.i should have mentioned that. Looks like mine is on the gen mount

Re: Electric Fan swap? Advice? My recommendation for an electric fan is use a puller and not a pusher. Get one with a thermostat. Mine comes on at about 180 degrees and cools fast on those 100 plus days. I run Sierra antifreeze with distilled water year around.

Re: Electric Fan swap? Advice? MS, if the 8BA is installed with the fan arrangement you don’t like can we see a picture of the setup? It helps FB’ers help you better!

Re: Electric Fan swap? Advice? I love my electric fan! I have it set up with a switch overhead so I can turn it on when I need it. No T-stat needed.

Re: Electric Fan swap? Advice? Make sure you use something that pulls amps, at least you know it will work, Spal would be the choice if in the U.S.
I use this adjustable controller . https://daviescraig.com.au/product/d...h-12v-24v-0444 |
