I pickup a old Firestone Tire 18 inch

Ok its a Firestone Gum Dipped5.25-550 with the numbers K817263A 4Ply. Now how old is it or is there any way to tell? Its like new. Would be nice for a spare tire I think.

If your sure it’s not a Coker reproduced early size, the tire is ancient. I have Firestone sales materials for 1953 with no mention of that size. And my earliest 1935 copy of the Tire and Rim Association manual has no listing for it. Stu

No it not a Coker made tire. I will take a picture of it today and post it for you to see.

All the modern tires have codes molded into the rubber. Take the code and look up the date on the web.

Only codes after the year 2000 can be interpreted to my understanding. Stu

I could not find any code on both sides but will look again.

If it's original, there won't be any.

Isn't the number you cite, K817263A, the code? Is it molded into the sidewall?

Re: I pickup a old Firestone Tire 18 inch

Yes it is. It molded in the sidewall. That all I could find. I looked at both sides for another code and there was no one.

Re: I pickup a old Firestone Tire 18 inch

It's not original '32 equipment as that would be a 5.25 x 18 tire, not 5.25/5.50. Where was the tire manufactured (that's also molded into the sidewall near the outer edge). The three likely candidates depending on the tread design are Canada, New Zealand, and the U.S.. Given the molded-in code, if it was made in the U.S., it was made by Coker.

It appears to have a post-WWII tread design. It's for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles.
