Club Meetings Using Remote Media

Is your local car club having regular club meetings using Zoom or Facetime to cope with the COVID19 Pandemic? If so, are there any tips you can share?

One of the clubs I belong to uses Zoom. It is my opinion that up you lose the Camaraderie that is so important. Many of the boring presentations are even more boring. A beer afterwards with the boys is a part of the meeting that is lost.

We have about 40 show up which is half the attendance of an in-person meeting. But this month we are going to meet out at a park and see how it goes.

Both of the clubs I belong to do their meeting via Zoom. One club regularly gets 60 - 80 people joining in. There is a limit of 100 on the package we have and one night, we had an interesting guest speaker. We were at 100 for the whole meeting and had many more waiting to log on as soon as someone else left. Many of the "extras" were from other clubs and we picked up few new members for ourselves out of it.
The key is to have a moderator (host) who has the ability to mute everybody. If some one wants to speak, they message the host and ask to be unmuted. He says his bit and gets a response before being muted again. When there are a lot of people on, we have 2 hosts who work together to keep an eye on everything and everyone.
At the end of the meeting, most leave immediately but those who want to "gasbag" for a bit are free to stay and all are unmuted.
My wife is one of those who host or co host ours so she knows more than I (Boy, I hope she reads this!:) )

Our Club meetings are in person, checking temperatures, screening, some social distancing, mask for those that want to wear them. Our most senior members have stayed away and are waiting to complete their second vaccine. We started meeting back in June or July.

Our Model A Club meetings are via ZOOM and are excellent for information sharing. You do not have to cancel a ZOOM meeting because of the weather and it is a way to keep in contact. Audubon Society and my local Fly Fishing chapter are also on ZOOM. We have guest speakers and they do not have to travel. I expect that COVID will soon go away but ZOOM or a similar venue will be with us as part of the new normal for all the right reasons.

Re: Club Meetings Using Remote Media

Our club has been meeting via Zoom, and we’ve typically now have about 20 attendees out of a total membership of ~70. Zoom meeting attendance is about half of what our in-person attendance was pe-pandemic.

Our Zoom meetings last about 30 minutes for discussion of upcoming events and new business. We don’t try to do presentations via Zoom, since we use the free version, which limits our meeting time to 30 minutes.

Our virtual meetings have allowed us to stay in touch, but are no substitute for the in response meetings.

Our AACA affiliate does their monthly meeting via Zoom. Typically have 75% of the in-person attendance.

Our Model A club meets via Zoom weekly with about 6-10 in attendance, which is about the same as our in person Thursday meetings.
