Wher are all these N O S Hoses coming from?

Boy 7 years of looking , asking and posting with no luck. The first time someone puts a pair of lower hoses on Ebay in a long time ...$260.00 about 3 weeks ago. Then about last week a set of [3] 1928/29 hoses went for over $300.00.. Now this past few days a pair of lower hoses for $260.00 again. Guess someone had to break the ice.. on the price. Have not seen a upper n.o.s. hose forsale for a 1930/31 yet..Last set i seen was 9 years ago used once for 1 show...$500.00

Pete,

Were is going to end? Do you have NOS hoses and/or points removed? How about
this NOS water, oil, air ! Some things ARE expendable....aren't they?

Dudley

P.S. yes I had a NOS top hose for a 30-31, but I cut it down for a 28-29. HA HA HA

Re: Wher are all these N O S Hoses coming from?

NOS from where? I can almost guarantee you that there aren't any orginal Ford radiator hoses from 1928-31 that are still usable. Are people calling old stock from the 60's and 70's NOS? Something's fishy here.

Hey, Hotrodster, I'll take you up on your gurantee. What are you willing to lose? They are out there and are still useable. I'm looking at a set right now.

Re: Wher are all these N O S Hoses coming from?

I've picked up several over the years and yes they are hard like one would expect from old rubber.
I ran hot tap water into a sink and soaked one for a couple minutes & it became soft & supple...sliding over the water neck pipe with a firm push.
I won't hesitate to run them and they fit so snug you could probably get away with no clamps :)

There is absolutely no way to know the date a hose was manufactured, and they have been reproducing script hoses for 40 years.

Model A hoses never had a script on them.

My guess for the glutton of NOS hoses is as the older generation of hobbyists passes on, more of this sort of thing hits the market. The next 10-15 years I will venture to say will cause alot of parts & cars to hit the open market.

I totally agree with that statement Luke. Eventually we will all either pass them on to our childern or sell them out right. My father always told me , DO ME A FAVOR ,DON'T GET OLD.

Re: Wher are all these N O S Hoses coming from?

Ever sense the Model T theres been a old Geezer passing on with a collection of parts. People are finding all this stuff because of the Web. This is where a good 90% of my info comes from. There are alot of repos from the 60's showing up as N.O.S.
Grab a old Hemmings from the 60's and look at the adds.
I was also told not to get old ......Ive told my Son the same thing.

Re: Wher are all these N O S Hoses coming from?

Pete, I think there are more lowers around because the early V8 hoses are the same diameter. People have found these over the years and cut them to length to fit A's. I have a sufficient supply of '28/29 uppers but like you have not seen any '30/31s that were for sale or could be bought.

The original hoses have never been accurately reproduced. Once you become familiar there can be no confusion.

You are absolutely right on this. What I think will also happen, is the kids don't know anything about it, and just throw it out.

I've been chuckling over the fatherly advise to "not grow old". My father told me "growing old is not easy". What he failed to tell me was how hard it is.

Of course in truth the alternative to growing old isn't very inviting either.

Re: Wher are all these N O S Hoses coming from?

I'm getting educated here, LOL. What would be very interesting to know is how long after Model A production ended, were the replacement hoses still being produced. Probably some clues could be gleaned from the style of printing on the boxes, etc. My hunch would be some of these NOS hoses may have been produced well up into the 40's. I also agree with Wick that some later repro stuff is definitely being called NOS.

I picked these up from various sources & wondered if anyone could explain the variations?.

1) spiral spacing is closer together on orange upper.
2) spiral direction is different as well on orange upper, but matches the one's previously posted.
3) one upper is distinctly brown. Cutting a fine sliver off one end reveals the colour is through & through (ruling out fading)

My Father also said that we are all on a Conveyer Belt ,just that some of us just fall off sooner than others.:(

Something like this i could not see putting on a restored fine point car. Even if it is orginial just does not look right.

Re: Wher are all these N O S Hoses coming from?

I have seen 1 [32] if you say it is longer then a Model "A".. i knew [John Heinz] N.Y. awhile back ,spent a day at his home.... This guy had more n.o.s. parts for 32,to 36 then you can shake a stick at.I think his house foundation was built on parts.I remember seeing the hose and making a remark about a misfit looking hose... No,, Vince ...he was not a friend of mine if you know him....l.o.l.

Re: Wher are all these N O S Hoses coming from?

John H. goes back right to after WW2 .JobLot hired him[part time] to identify Ford parts for their company. As payment John asked for parts instead of cash. Just about everyone into 32-36 Fords knows John. Met him in the early 70's thru the 80's. This guy was a wheeler and dealer [not to many friends]he had. Thats why i said he was not a friend of mine.. pissed off alot of people but did super work . He knew his stuff when it came to 32-36 Fords.
