Microlon engine treatment
 

A friend who is also an airplane mechanic was telling me about a product called Microlon. It is a one time friction reducing oil additive. It is approved for use in airplane engines and he has used it for quite sometime. He also uses it in all of his vehicles. I am curious if anyone on here has used it in their Model A engines? Thanks

The problem I've found with sliippery stuff like PTFE is getting it to stick to anything...

The study in post 2 is informative. Zinc has been found to be beneficial for horiz. opposed cylinder engines at the tappets/ lifters, etc. (study published by the Amer. Porsche Club). Higher levels of zinc used to be in the now-discontinued Red Bottles of STP and due to zinc effects on catalytic convertors. One can add a small amount of ZDDP to oil (not an entire bottle) in vintage engines if desired as opposed to PTFE and other additives.

how is this treatment different from that in synthetic oil?

Duke 36 how muck is "a small amount" for 4.5 quarts in a Model A engine?

ronn, not sure chemically how it is different than synthetic motor oil but the price is definitely different. Microlon is about $90.00 per quart. It is a one time, one quart, treatment however. I just thought that if it was certified for use in piston driven airplane engines it may be a good thing for our Model A engines. Just seeing if anyone had any input.
