Re: C69a That's a Canadian pre-ww2 flathead 24 stud, probably has the military extra oil pressure port on the bell housing. Similar to the US 59A ,but always there are the Military bearing surprises. Newc

Re: C69a Information; they have real thick cylinder walls.
They displace 239 cu inches, run a two hole per journal crank, with shell bearing con rods. These are NOT the same as 8BA version. Those shell bearings are impossible to find nowadays, however, regular 239 floaters can be substituted. Originally, the valve rotator valve setup was fitted, and only exhaust valves had hardened seats. |
Re: C69a It's just like a part number on the engine series. The 6 represents the design year and in this case it's 1946 so it's post war Canadian with the C at the front. The 9 stands for 239 CID. The C69A has a different crankshaft than the C59A series. Canada went with replaceable con rod shells instead of floater bearings before Ford USA did. The bearings for these cranks are hard to find. Some folks just replace them with the C8BA crank & rods to get away from the odd bearings. Other than that, it's just like a C59A. Put a later Mercury 4" crank in it and make it go better.
