"28 Truck Bed Wood Sill demensions. Resurrecting a basket case 1928 Pick-up Truck bed. Anyone have the demensions of the bed wooden sill? Thank you!

Re: "28 Truck Bed Wood Sill demensions. Are we talking pickup on the car chassis, or AA truck? By sill, do you mean the wooden bearer that sits on the frame and supports the bed? I can give you that from my RPU.

Re: "28 Truck Bed Wood Sill demensions. It is CC Pick-up on the original frame. Yes, demensions of the wooden "bearer" aka, "sill" is what I am looking for. Had a good reply with a hand made diagram that helps but not all of the numbers are legible.

Re: "28 Truck Bed Wood Sill demensions. My apologies: I thought I had a couple of these rails but do not. When I rebuilt my bed I bought replacements for most of the parts that were rusted out from Mike's Afordable, including wood mounting blocks. My car is an E28 and doesn't use this sill plate, but I thought it had come with the bundle. Mike still sells it
https://www.mikes-afordable.com/product/A970AB.html I can give you the locations for the bolt holes by taking the measurement from my bed siderail. Do you have Mack Hils book? Essential reading if you're doing a PU. It has 2 good pics of the rail, but no dimensions. |
Re: "28 Truck Bed Wood Sill demensions. Thank you. I have the bed and frame so I can figure out the location of the holes needed. I picked up a slab of Ash today at Colonial Hardwoods. It is the overall demensions of the sill that had me head scratching. Drawing provided by another fella has them at 38-1/2 " L; 3-5/8" W; and 1-3/4" H.

Re: "28 Truck Bed Wood Sill demensions. Tom at Snyders Antique Auto was kind enough to pull a bed sill off the shelf and measure it. 38-3/8" L; 3-5/8"W; and 1-1/2" H. So with the numbers Dan in California provided on the drawing..1/8" difference in length....I can proceed with whittling on this slab of Ash and carve out a couple bed sills!!
Thank you all! |
