Trickle charger for 1926 roadster pickup Hi everyone,
I’ve got a model T 1926 roadster pickup. I was wondering if someone could recommend a trickle charger for me to use over the winter. I try to take it out about once a week and sometimes in the winter months the battery takes a hit. Any recommendations would be much appreciated! Sincerely, KCW |

Hey KCW I have been using a Schumacher BEO1250 for several years...I like it.
The problem with the 6V group 1 battery is it should be on a maintainer when parked for a week or more. They seem to be prone to fail after 3-4 years and quicker if not using a maintainer. My experience and from other threads on this subject be it Fordbarn or MTFCA. What I like about this model is it's 6V/12V, shows percentage of charge. Indicates a bad battery, clamps reversed and if it's charging or maintaining It also has a small cooling fan if 15A rapid charge is being used. I also have a GFI 20a outlet for using my charger. Can be used on a standard, AGM or gel battery. Good luck and let us know how you make out. Scott |
Re: Trickle charger for 1926 roadster pickup Even though I use the Battery Tender, it would be nice to have a readout as to the amount of charge. Wonder if there is a gauge you could add to the Battery Tender?

Re: Trickle charger for 1926 roadster pickup I agree with bob p, just put a regular charger on the battery once a month, keep the cells up to the correct level and you should be OK. I charge the batteries on my cars on or about the first of the month November through April. I have NAPA Group 1 batteries in all the cars, including my 23 roadster and regularly get 6-8 years out of each. My main concern with a tender is that it’s always plugged in and I’m just old fashioned enough to be cautious about that. Others will disagree and that’s OK.

Re: Trickle charger for 1926 roadster pickup If you need any kind of charger break out ya test light. Or take off a cable to see if you have some leak somewhere. Myself I can/t drive all these but I go in the barn two turns it starts right up then go So 3 months it starts instantly because it is right. and I have never shut off any fuel valves either. Come here be a believer since Sept 20 lets go no tender

It looks like good thing, even for 6V it has single setting, but still AMG and flooded batteries have almost the same charging characteristic. It stop charging at 6.6V and now I observe how it will maintain the battery.
